Viana Dolores Woogie Adams, longtime Fairfax school teacher, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009 at her home in Fairfax. She was 79. Woogie was born May 15, 1929 at Wilson, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ed Carlile and Georgia Cavner Carlile. She was a graduate of Tahlequah High School and Northeastern State University of Tahlequah. She was married to Charles Melvin Adams on New Years Eve 1955 at Lindsey, Oklahoma. She had taught school at the School of the Blind in Muskogee with her last 35 years of teaching being at the Fairfax Elementary school, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and former member of the Oklahoma Teachers Association. Woogies enjoyments included her cats, her church, helping others, especially children and her grand dog, Minnie. Woogie is survived by her son, Mike Adams and wife, Becky, of Glencoe, Oklahoma; one brother, Carl Lee and wife, Rhonda, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles, on November 19, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 in the Woodland High School Auditorium at Fairfax. Pastor Bill Bray of the New Hope Christian Fellowship of Fairfax will be the presiding minister.
