Velma May Girdner Hampton, resident of Fairfax, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Fairfax Manor Nursing Home. She was 95. Velma was born the daughter of William Clint Hundley and Bessie Provolt Hundley on January 16, 1914 in Chillicothe, Missouri. She came to Oklahoma at the age of 6 and in 1935 married Carl Girdner in Cherokee, Oklahoma. She later married Hughes Hampton in 1978 in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Velma was a cook at the Fairfax Hospital and a longtime member of First Osage Baptist Church. She was also active at the Fairfax Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by her nephews, George Johnson and wife, Marian of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Bill Johnson and wife, Sherry of Hominy, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Carl Girdner, 1970 and Hughes Hampton; two half brothers and one sister. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Fairfax Cemetery with Pastor Wayne Taylor of First Osage Baptist Church officiating.
