Veatrice Ileen Harris, longtime resident of rural Grainola, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, August 10, 2011 at her home with family and loved ones.
She was born March 24, 1919 on the Jersey Ranch, South of Cedar Vale, Kansas. She was oldest of seven children born to N.T. Olsen and Nannie Johnson Olsen. The family later moved to Hardy, Oklahoma where she attended grade school. She was a graduate of Newkirk High School.
She married Gordon Harris on February 25, 1938 at Newkirk. The couple made their home on the Jersey Ranch before moving to Grainola, where Veatrice lived and raised her family for 70 some years.
Veatrice was a Rancher all of her life. She loved her family, gardening, flowers, and baking that she shared with family and friends. She opened her home to foster children for many years, for she was a very loving and caring person.
She belonged to the Shidler United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and held many offices. She also belonged to P.E.O, the Osage County Cowbells, and many more organizations. She volunteered at the Shidler Schools, helping any way she could. She was always giving of her love and time.
She will be missed by her children, David Harris and wife, Janis, Bob Harris and wife, Janet, Norma Roberts and husband, Johnny, Janice Stuber and husband, Larry 14 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren one brother, Larry Olsen and wife, Dorthy caregivers Maria Houston and Gina Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents husband son, Eddy 4 brothers, Bill, Melvin, Bob and Jim 1 sister, Selma.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Newkirk Cemetery with Charlie Kaupke presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of the HunsakerWooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601 or to the CJMM New Day Camp, Methodist Foundation, 1501 N.W. 24th, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73106.
The family invites all family and friends for fellowship and food to celebrate Veatrices life at the Newkirk United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
