Sue Emma Damron, age 100, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday night, December 18, 2022, while a patient at the Fairfax Manor in Fairfax, Oklahoma.
Sue was born to Hungarian parents Joe Szenasi and Esther Budai Szenasi on March 24, 1922, in Caddo, Oklahoma. She attended school, played basketball, and graduated at Caddo. Later, she attended Southeastern Teachers College in Durant, Oklahoma.
On January 16, 1946, she married the love of her life, Gene Damron in Sherman, Texas. In 1949, the couple made their home in Osage County where they raised their two sons, Bill Damron and Jess Damron. After Gene’s death (June 2003) Sue moved to Fairfax to be closer to her sons and grandchildren.
During World War II, Sue worked at Boeing Airforce Base in Wichita, Kansas; later she substituted as a teacher at Fairfax Schools; and eventually worked as a clerk at the Big Hill Trading Co. in Fairfax.
Sue was a loving mother and outstanding homemaker. Mostly, she enjoyed time well spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. This past Spring, family and friends joined in celebrating her 100th birthday at the Manor. Starting off with a parade through the parking lot in her honor followed by fellowship and visiting before opening her countless cards and gifts.
For years Sue shared her talent, time and treasure while attending the First Christian Church, and assisting with the church ladies’ group- Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF), who helped and supported those in need. She also enjoyed the Red Hats ladies club of Fairfax and was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan. Her close friend, Dorothy and Sue spent multiple occasions together, including walking in the cemetery each day for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene Damron, three brothers Albert, Dave, & John Szenasi, and two sisters Maggie Szenasi & Esther Moran.
Survivors include her son Bill Damron and his family: Zack Elsberry, grandson Luke Elsberry, Will & Bree Lockett, grandchildren Ben Lockett, Audrey Webb, Emily, Georgiana, & Lark Lockett, Charity Damron and Hannah Damron. Son Jess & Sharon Damron and their family: John, Kim, Seth, Sullivan, and Gabrielle Damron, Tara Damron, and Jennifer Damron and numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Russ Hughes, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairfax City Cemetery under the care of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fairfax Manor Nursing Home; Traditions Home Health & Russ Hughes; and Doctor Graham for the wonderful care given to Sue these past years. We also want to thank all our friends and family for the prayers, texts, calls, meals, donations, and support.
