Sharon Lance

Sharon Kay Lance passed away on March 15, 2025 in Tulsa, OK. Sharon was born on January 10, 1938 at home, in Wayne, Oklahoma. She was the third child of C. L. and Marie Hardage Slates’ nine children.

Sharon graduated as Valedictorian from Bradley High School in 1956. After attending one year of secretarial school in Oklahoma City, Sharon married her high school sweetheart Dale Lance. Sharon and Dale were married twenty-three years, living in OKC; Wichita, KS; Bethany, OK and finally settled in Fairfax in 1967.

At the age of twelve Sharon began working during the summer picking cotton. During high school she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator. Sharon enjoyed being the secretary for Osage County Sheriff Wayman during the Mullendore Murder Investigations. She always said she knew who done it but was hush hush. Sharon worked at the Indian Electric office in Fairfax during the mid-1970s. During her marriage to Dale and while working outside the home, she managed their industrial weed control company until 1980. Next, Sharon worked at OG&E, retiring after fifteen years. After one year of retirement, she went to work at the First State Bank in Fairfax. She finished her working career there and retired for the second time at age 73.

Sharon was a member of the First Christian Church. She loved to read and did the daily crossword puzzle in the Tulsa World. She could be found at the Ralston Corner Cafe at her table every morning having her favorite meal. She watched the weather channel every day and never failed to update her family in and out of state, of any bad weather. Sharon was a spectator of all sports. Some of her fondest memories were her days being a faithful Fairfax Red Devil fan. Sharon and Monta Lu never missed a game, and you could find them at the highest point on the 50-yard line. Sharon loved her Boomer Sooners. She would start early with her grandkids and great grandkids weaving colors of crimson and cream and singing the OU fight song. She could discuss the game and stats with the best of them. Sharon enjoyed cheering for her grandchildren & great grandchildren at any sports or music performance they were participating in. She loved her family unconditionally and was always their number one fan. She entertained her family with her “mema-isms.“ They never failed to cause a chuckle or two. Sharon loved life, family and friends will fondly remember her quick wit and kind heart.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, son Roger Lance, grandson Dustin Lance and brother Leale Slate. She is survived by her son Craig Lance (wife Jennifer), daughter Stacy Goodfox and daughter-in-law Denise Daniels. Grandchildren: Tasha Lance Vaughn (husband Scott), Rachel Lance Burruss (husband Blake), Lindsay Goodeagle, Braden Wallace, Mannon Wallace (fiancé Corbin Sarten), Summer Wallace, Carson Lance (wife Madison) and Kaelyn Lance Marion (husband Trey). Great grandchildren: Chakah & sister Farren Johnson, brother Collin Brazee; Canaan, brothers Judah & Tobias Vaughn; Barrett & sister Braylee Burruss; and Robert Pratt III. Seven siblings also survive Sharon: Gail Beasley, Helen Smith, Minnie Sossamon, Charles Slate (wife Cindy), Julia McWhirter (husband Doyle), Janet Bellows (husband Martin) C.L. Jr. “Rusty” Slate (wife Patty) and a sister-in-law Rita Slate. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2p.m. to 7p.m. at the Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Chapel, Fairfax. Funeral service will be 2p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025 in the First Christian Church, Fairfax with Pastor Russ Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairfax City Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Carson Lance, Braden Wallace, Canaan Vaughn, Scott Vaughn, Chakah Johnson, and Collin Brazee. Honorary pallbearers: Judah Vaughn, Tobias Vaughn, Barrett Burruss and Robert Pratt III.
