Sammie Lou Poplin, longtime Fairfax resident passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. She was 64 years of age. She was a member of both the Winnebago and Osage Tribes.

Sammie was born June 30, 1947 in Hominy, Oklahoma, the daughter of Sam M. and Frances Rhodes and Melvin and Elizabeth Free. She was a 1965 graduate of Shidler High School. She was a wellknown beauty operator in Fairfax for the past several years. Her enjoyments included playing golf, bowling, shooting pool and dancing. She also was an avid Elvis Presley fan.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of the home four sons, Sam L. McKinney, Darren McKinney, Jimmie Mack Brazee and Roan Brazee one brother, Fred Burrow and one sister, Esther Lowden 12 grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents two sisters, Marie Whiteman and Olivia Free two brothers, Rueben Brown and John Burrow.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Grayhorse Chapel, East of Fairfax. Interment will follow in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the HunsakerWooten Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be King Bowman, Mark Bowman, Jim Gates, Thomas Goodeagle, John Shipman and Howard Holloway. Honorary casket bearers will be Dicky Johnston, Pat Stone, Roy Lee Wilson, Roger Potter, Larry Dooley, Ted Smith, Roger Kennedy and Terry Dooley.
