Sammie K. Bell, age 60, gained her angel wings and began her journey to heaven in the early morning on Friday, April 12, 2019 while resting peacefully.
Sammie was born on Sunday, October 19, 1958 the daughter of Sam Stool, Jr. and Joyce Ann (Stewart) Stool in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was one quarter Cherokee and very proud of her Cherokee Heritage. Her paternal grandparents were Sam Stool Sr., full blood Cherokee and Alma (Cherry) Stool. Maternal grandparents were Daniel Alda Stewart and Ruby (O'dell) Stewart.
She was raised and attended school in Marble City, Oklahoma until the 1970s when the family moved to Ralston. Sammie and her sister Tonya then attended Ralston Public Schools. A younger brother Mike completed the family.
While at Ralston, Sammie met her first love, Mike Mitchell and they were married in May 1974. They made their home in the Big Bend community, welcoming their first son, Will on Sammie's birthday. A second son, Jeff was later added to this union. The couple since had divorced but remained friends.
She later married David Lee Bell, who in October 2014 preceded her in death.
Sammie worked in the dietary department at Stillwater Hospital for many years. In 2007, she moved to Fairfax where she assisted in the care of home bound individuals.
In the summer of 2009 when granddaughter Elizabeth was visiting, Sammie got a bad sun burn. Her nephew Brian said "she looks like a crab" and told young Izzy call your Grandma "Nana Crab." Izzy did and it stuck! "Nana Crab" she was from then on.
Her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life and she loved them dearly. She looked forward to time spent with them and family members on birthdays, holidays, and weekends.
Other favorite pastimes included reading, playing cards, watching the Oxygen & ID channel as well as OSU football games on TV, and eating spicy foods.
Left to cherish her memory include her oldest son, William Mitchell of the Big Bend community and his daughter, Staci Tally and her son, Rhys of Gulf Port, Miss.; youngest son, Jeffrey Mitchell and wife Kanessa, their children, Elizabeth (Izzy to Grandma) and Jacob Mitchell of Fairfax; sister, Tonya Shipman and husband Johnny of Fairfax; brother, Mike Stool of Fort Smith, Ark.; nephew, Brian Stool of Tahlequah, and his son, Dylan Stool of Ponca City; Aunt Bonnie Cagel of Fairfax; special four legged niece Izzy and many cousins.
She was welcomed home in heaven by her parents; and a grandson, Samuel "Blade" Mitchell. Her wishes were to be cremated and the family is honoring this wish under the care of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax. Services will be private.
