Roxanne Lea (Surprise) Hopper passed peacefully at her home in Ralston, OK on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the age of 59.
Roxanne was born in WaKeeney, KS on January 19, 1958, to David Lee Surprise and Norma Elaine (Huber) Surprise. The first of four daughters, she spent her early years in Kansas. The family moved to Fairfax, OK in 1971 and Roxanne attended Fairfax Schools. She graduated from Ross Case High School with the Red Devil Class of 1976. Roxanne studied at O.S.U. where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfax, OK.
Roxanne married Justin Gibson in Fairfax, OK where they made their home. They were blessed with the joy of her life, a son J.D. Gibson.
She worked as a social worker at D.H.S. in Pawhuska, OK for several years. Later, she also helped at Fairfax Dental as an assistant with Dr. Michael Ben.
On April 3, 2003, Roxanne married Ron Hopper in Eureka Springs, AR. They lived in the Sunny Slope area for many years before moving to Ralston a few years ago.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, following her nieces and nephews sporting events, listening to Ron play his guitar, playing shuffle board and farkle, dancing with friends at the Legion, and shopping with the girls. She was an active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Unit #333 for the past five years and most recently she assisted with the Unchained Addiction Recovery Group at First Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ron of the home; mother, Norma Surprise; son J. D. Gibson and wife Jenni, grandchildren Marlee and Sawyer Gibson all of Ponca City; two step-daughters, Melissa Hopper of Cleveland and Sheila Hopper of Tulsa; sisters, Melody Malaske and husband Vernon of Pawhuska, Kelley Brumley and husband Bill of Ralston, Lisa Ben and husband Dr. Michael Ben of Fairfax. Beloved nieces, nephews, her faithful dog and companion, Maggie, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Surprise; grandparents, Oscar and Lillian Huber and Audrey and Charles Surprise.
Roxanne's wishes were to be cremated and the family has fulfilled her wishes. A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 in the First Christian Church, Fairfax with Pastors George Weston and Brian Doyle presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.
