Ross Bowman

October 28, 1990 — March 18, 2025

Ross Bowman, age 34, of Fairfax, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on March 18, 2025. Ross was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and raised in Fairfax. He was a 2010 Woodland High School graduate, where he was known for his love of sports, especially football, and the strong bond he shared with his family. His father, who was his first coach, introduced Ross to the world of sports, sparking his love for the game and competition.

From a young age, Ross had a natural curiosity and a love for adventure. He spent his childhood hunting, fishing, drawing, listening to music, and searching for morrell mushrooms in the springtime. Ross had a deep connection to his family’s cattle operations, often helping his dad and day working for ranchers in Osage County. He was always eager to lend a hand and embrace the hard work involved in the ranching life. He was on a horse at an early age, was an active child, very head strong, leaning toward the ornery side. He liked to tease, make you laugh and pester to no end, even into adulthood.

An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairfax, Ross served as an altar boy and volunteered his time with the Catholic Charities monthly food distribution. He was also a proud member of the Osage Nation Tribe, eagerly participating in the In-Lon-Schka, a significant cultural celebration. Ross was widely known for his politeness, kindness, and willingness to help others. Whether opening a door, carrying groceries, or giving the shirt off his back, Ross made sure others felt cared for. He was vocal in his love for others and often told them so.

After high school, Ross worked in the pipeline industry on the bending crew, which allowed him to travel the country and experience new places and meet new people. It was during this time that his life would change dramatically. In 2012, Ross was involved in a tragic motor vehicle accident, suffering a traumatic brain injury that required him to relearn how to walk, talk, and complete everyday tasks. Though his life was never quite the same after the accident, those who knew him understood that his heart remained unchanged—full of love, determination, and a spirit that could not be broken. God blessed his family and those that loved him with Ross’ presence for 13 more years.

In 2016, Ross experienced the greatest joy of his life with the birth of his daughter, Chesney. She became the light of his life, and he loved being her father, affectionately calling her “baby bear.” Ross treasured his time with Chesney, and she brought him immeasurable happiness.

Throughout his life, Ross battled alcohol and substance abuse, this struggle, along with depression continued into adulthood. Despite these challenges, he remained a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, and his story serves as a reminder to seek help for anyone facing similar struggles.

Ross’s favorite saying was, “Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future,” a reminder of his belief in the power of redemption and change. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ross is survived by his daughter, Chesney Bowman of Okmulgee, OK; his parents, King and Tamra Bowman of Fairfax, OK; his sister, Callie Jo Bowman of Fairfax, OK; his brother, Dalton (Krystal) Bowman of Dacona, CO; his grandmother, MontaLu Renfro of Fairfax, OK; and his nephews, Hunter Bowman and Tayven Bowman and his nieces Dailyn Nickles, Emery Brackett, Avery Bowman, and RanDea Jo Bowman. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Larry and Barbara Bowman, Raymond Renfro; Aunt Shannon Renfro; Uncle Shane Hudson; and cousin Mark Grigg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ross’s memory to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 333 S. 8th Street, Fairfax, OK 74637.
