In the early morning hours of September 15, 2022, the Grayhorse District of the Osage Nation lost one of its best friends and dancers when Ronald Dee Goodeagle Sr., age 69, began his next journey to meet his creator from his home in Red Rock, Oklahoma. Passing just weeks after a gathering honoring and celebrating his life was held at the Grayhorse Indian Village.
Ronnie, beloved family member of Dolores “Dee Dee” Marie (Green) Goodeagle and Ronny Wockmetooah was born May 20, 1953, in Ponca City, Okla. A member of the Osage Nation, Grayhorse District, he is of the Eagle Clan. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Green (Sac & Fox of Kansas) and Mary Osage Green (Full Blood Osage). He is the great grandson of Liza Osage-Bigheart and Amos Osage.
Raised in Fairfax, he graduated with the Red Devil Class of 1971 and went on to attend college at Okmulgee Tech where he studied photography. Later, he worked as a teacher/counselor at the Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota sharing his knowledge and culture of Native American history until his retirement.
As a former tail dancer and longtime powwow champion he was incredibly involved with the Osage tribe and taught others to dance and uphold traditions. He danced and contested at Powwows all over the World, including the US and Canada. Ronnie was a member of the Lakota Dance Theater and performed with the Brave Scout Troop as well. He belonged to the Native American Church and was of the Catholic Faith. Ronnie was an avid OU fan and enjoyed golfing and bowling in his spare time.
On December 28, 1982, he married Lillian Eastman in Miami, Okla. and they enjoyed a beautiful life together until her passing in November of 2020. Also preceding him in death are his father, and his brother Terry Len Goodeagle.
Ronnie is survived by his mother, Dolores Goodeagle of Anadarko; children Lisa Bright Fisher (Roger)-Verdigris, Gideon Goodeagle-Hominy, Tesa Roubedeaux (Jade)-Red Rock, Aiden Callaway (Adam)-Tulsa, Ronnie Goodeagle Jr. (Miyan)-Green Bay, Wis., Winona Goodeagle-Tama, Iowa, Nahmi Lasley (Tyler)-Tama, Iowa, and Lora Rosas (Louie)-Ponca City; two brothers Kenny Paul Goodeagle and Thomas Goodeagle both of Anadarko; sister Candance Toehay (Jeff)-Anadarko; thirty-five grandchildren, Kayla Fisher, Lauren Fisher, Melissa Murray, Samantha Goodeagle, Gideon Goodeagle Jr., Randee Goodeagle, Jacob Roubedeaux, Stetson Roubedeaux, Triston Roubedeaux, Leilani Roubedeaux, Naomi Roubedeaux, Jennifer Roubedeaux, Jadion Roubedeaux, Zachary Roubedeaux, Mitchell Weathers, Gabriel Weathers, Brynn Weathers, Axton Callaway, Makiah Goodeagle, Micah Goodeagle, Zeus Goodeagle, Lilia Kingbird, Lincoln Kingbird, Ioleta Kingbird, Nathan Lasley, Triston Lasley, Tyrin Lasley, Neena Lasley, Tess Lasley, Makayla Rosas, Whitney Rosas, Catherine Rosas, Antonio Silva, Xavier Silva, and Isiah Silva; as well as eight great- grandchildren Emery Roubedeaux, Tabias Roubedeaux, Sterling Roubedeaux, Amelia Weathers, Layla Weathers, Penelope Weathers, Emry Lasley, and Emmett Mitchell. Also left to cherish the memories and carry his legacy are his dear Aunt Bev Brownfield-Burbank; countless nieces and nephews, cousins, and more friends than we could ever count.
Traditional Osage Services will be held at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, September 18 at the Grayhorse Chapel with Archie Mason Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Grayhorse Cemetery under the direction of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home. Ronnie will be at the Grayhorse Chapel Thursday evening, Friday, and Saturday, September 15, 16, and 17th.
