Rodger Scott Potter, 72, life-long Fairfax resident, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 27, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born to John Dewey and LaVerda Mae (Hall) Potter on March 11, 1946 in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Rodger, one of six children, attended school in the Fairfax School system with his siblings graduating a Red Devil in 1964. In 1970, he entered the United States Army serving his country until his honorable discharge on July 11, 1972.
He was a ‘jack of all trades' starting at a young age helping and learning from his father in the plumbing business. He worked as a cowboy, mainly for the Smith Bar 7 Ranch, later in the oil fields, and as a pipe liner until his retirement in 2013.
Rodger enjoyed spending time on the river with family and friends, fishing, and mushroom hunting. His greatest joy was his grandkids, "Poppa" always had a pocket full of candy for them. He also enjoyed his time spent as a member of the American Legion Post #333 of Ralston, Okla.
Greeting Rodger in Heaven are his parents; one sister, Martha Pat Potter (1963); and a brother, David L. Potter (2018).
Rodger leaves to treasure his memory his companion, Bessie Holloway; daughters, Jamie (Greg) Moon and Brandy (Thomas) Middlebrook; son, Scott Potter; grandchildren, Thomas Middlebrook, Cameron Potter, Kenzi Potter, Kelsey Potter, Carson Moon, Kaycee Potter, Kara Potter, Claire Potter; sisters, Laura Frances Sitterly and Ginger Gibson; brother, William "Bill" Potter; step-children include Kojack Holloway, Jackie Burch and their children; as well as nieces, nephews, and a community of friends.
Pallbearers will be John Hudson, Dickie Johnston, Henry Johnston, Howard Holloway, Pat Stone and Justin Cannon. Honorary bearers are Russell Cannon, Thomas Middlebrook, Cameron Potter, and Carson Moon.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 10 am on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Fairfax Cemetery with Bro. Lewis Bernard, officiating. Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax will be in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions in memory of Rodger may be made to the American Legion Post #333, PO Box 33, Ralston, Okla. 74650-0033.
