Russellville

Norma Frances Wood, formerly of Fairfax, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the age of 90 in Russellville, Arkansas, in the loving care of Stella Manor Nursing Center, with her daughters and son by her side.

Norma Hawkins was born in Tulsa, Okla. on her mother’s birthday July 5th in 1934, to parents Kurt Hawkins and Margaret “Hosty” (Gibson) Hawkins-Hostmyer. Years later, Zoey, her great granddaughter, also shared in this special day being the third generation to be born on July 5th. Norma attended school and graduated from Hoisington, Kansas.

She married the love of her life RC Wood on December 10, 1960, in Kansas embarking on a journey filled with love and children. She felt blessed to inherit RC’s children, Donnie, Carol, Ricky, and Ginger. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Jana and Norma’s son Steven completed the family of eight. Norma was a beautiful lady, inside & out, and had the kindest heart. She showed all of us family values and what that means. We are the family we are due to her never-ending love.

The couple established their first & forever home in Fairfax. Norma worked at the Palace grocery store and eventually took a job at the First State Bank as a Teller which she spent many years there until her retirement.

An avid OU Sooners fan, her favorite pastime was reading. She also loved to cook for family and friends-- no one ever left her home hungry! She enjoyed going to school football games watching her boys and later the grandchildren play. A member of the First Osage Baptist Church, Norma and her best friend LaVon loved to travel and went on many trips together.

The past few years were spent living in Russellville to be near to her daughters.

The loved ones that will miss Norma until they meet again are her children Donnie Wood, Oklahoma City; Carol Black, Russellville, Ark.; Ginger (Robert) Walston, Russellville, Ark.; Jana Cox, Fairfax; and sister Donna (Wes) Baba, Wellington, Kan. Ten grandchildren include: Tara Denton, Stevie Wood, Jason Spradlin, Eric Wood, Dustin Wood , Richard Wood, Holly Shroyer, Jeremey Wood, Jessie Wood, and Kade Cox. Also, numerous great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.
