Nancy A. Smith, age 67, wife of George Smith III of rural Fairfax, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord on Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2020. She passed peacefully at home with her loving husband and devoted sister by her side.
Nancy Annette was born on Monday, February 9, 1953, the younger of two daughters, to parents Ward Vore and Mildred “Millie” Lee (Munday) Fralick, in the Ponca City Hospital at Ponca, Okla. She was welcomed home by big sister Rebecca.
Growing up in Ponca, she attended all twelve years in the Ponca City Public School system. As a proud member of the “Big Blue Ponca City School Band” she enjoyed playing the clarinet. Graduating with the Class of 1971, she went on to attend college at NOC in Tonkawa.
After college, Nancy worked as a cashier and pharmacy assistant at Toni’s Pharmacy. Later, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona and worked there in a pharmacy for several years.
In the early 1970s, due to her father’s health, she returned home to Ponca where she began working at Conoco in the credit department. Following her employment with Conoco, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Donald Cooper, head of the department at OSU Health Care Services in Stillwater. Upon his retirement, she went to work in the Psychology Department where she remained for the next few years.
During this time, she was introduced to George through a mutual friend who was also their barber. They dated for over a year before marrying on a beautiful summer day in July 1995. In a small ceremony, at Payne County Courthouse in Stillwater she wed George, the love of her life. The couple shared twenty-four awesome years of marriage, July 31st would have been their twenty- fifth anniversary!
Her interests included hunting animals for sport, target shooting and most of all—antique hunting. Many times a day of treasure hunting would involve close friends or often an overnight visit until ill health limited her activities.
Nancy will be warmly remembered by her husband George of the home; her sister Rebecca (Fralick) Braden of Ponca City; her niece Michelle and husband J.R. McConnell of Burbank, and their children Tia A. McConnell, Hunter W. McConnell and Jordan D. McConnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her aunts and uncles.
A private family graveside service was held 10 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2020, at the Fairfax City Cemetery with Pastor Russ Hughes officiating.
