Max Haines

April 11, 1938 — September 17, 2016

Longtime Ponca City resident Max A. Haines passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2016. He was born in Pawhuska, OK on April 11, 1938 to the late Aaron McCord Haines and Pearl (Gallatin) Haines. His much loved hometown was Fairfax, OK.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at 2:00pm at the Fairfax City Cemetery with Rev. Lewis Bernard officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.

After graduating from Fairfax High School he enlisted in the United State Air Force and was stationed at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina in the flight refueling unit. When his military service ended he moved to Ponca City where he met his wife-to-be, Sandra Johnson, originally of Chandler, OK. They were married on March 1, 1968. Max worked for Continental Carbon Co. for over 40 years.

Max never met a stranger. He enjoyed getting to know people and making friends. He liked building model airplanes, working crossword puzzles and was an avid Oklahoma State football fan. He was also a past member of the American Legion. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and family man.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home. Two daughters Kerri D. Horton and husband, Hal, Susan K. Meyers and husband Ryan, both of Edmond, OK. One brother Frank Haines of Fairfax, OK; two sisters, Virgie Haines of Ponca City and Lorraine McNairy of Augusta, KS; four grandchildren, Abby Horton, Ethan Horton, Daniel Meyers and Sarah Meyers; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
