Marion Albert Sonny Balduff Jr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 2, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers disease.
Sonny was born January 3, 1933 in Ponca City to Bernice and Albert Balduff. Sonny grew up and graduated from Marland High School. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country until 1954. He reenlisted in 1956 and served through 1966. While in the Navy he received training as a Navy Diver. He later was employed as a mechanic with McDonnellDouglas.
On June 15, 1954, Sonny married Charlotte Rodgers in Fairfax. Sonny is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte, of their home in Fairfax two daughters, Vicki Burton, of the home and Lisa Silvy and husband, John, of Shawnee, Oklahoma three sons, Jim Balduff and wife, Anita, of Memphis, Indiana, Mike Balduff and wife, Michele, of North Aurora, Illinois, and Rick Balduff and wife, Stephanie, of Island Lake, Illinois seven grandchildren, Steve Burton, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Jamie Hampton and husband, Craig, of Shepardsville, Kentucky, Courtney Burton and fiance, Drew Kinney, of Bartlesville, Amanda Silvy of Shawnee, Shawn, Aaron and Shelby Balduff, of North Aurora, Illinois one great granddaughter, Alexis Burton of Bartlesville. He is also survived by two sisters, LeeAnna Diamond of Marland, Oklahoma, Bo Landfield and husband, Dick, of Yorba Linda, California one brother, Bill Balduff and wife, Marilyn, of Granada Hills, California sisterinlaw, Neva Balduff, of Ponca City. He was preceded in death by his parents his brother, Fred Balduff of Ponca City and sister, Betty Parent of Lemoore, California.
Sonny had enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, leatherworking and horse riding. Sonny was a kind, gentle man, and was known for his care and concern for animals of all kinds. He loved his family above all else. He was a wonderful role model who instilled the importance of family to all of his children. At Sonnys request, his earthly body was to be cremated.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the First Osage Baptist Church in Fairfax with Rev. Wayne Taylor presiding. All friends are welcome to come and celebrate Sonnys life with his family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Fairfax Manor Nursing Home or ONHL Hospice, both at the same address, 282CR 6300, Fairfax, Oklahoma 74637 or to the Fairfax Humane Animal Control, in care of Burly Hathcoat, 250 West Locust, Fairfax, Oklahoma 74637.
