Lois Wilson

August 12, 1934 — March 19, 2022

Ponca City

On Saturday evening, March 19, 2022 God called Lois N. Wilson home to rest after a long battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 87 at home with family by her side.

Lois Nadine was born to John Wesley Nygren and Doris Virginia (McAllister) Nygren in Longmont, Colorado on Sunday, August 12, 1934. She was united in marriage with James Wilson, Jr. on Sunday, August 3, 1952 in Leadville, Colorado. They made their home in Colorado and during this time were blessed with six children Bonnie, Vickie, James W., Judy, Peggy, and Dennis.

Lois life revolved around her family. Mostly, she fulfilled the role of gracious homemaker and mother through the years. In 1981 the couple relocated to Fairfax, Oklahoma. At the age of 57, she studied and completed her G.E.D.

Lois worked in Fairfax at Havens Hardware where she was a clerk for seven years before joining the workforce at Indian Electric Co-op at the Fairfax branch. She spent eight years employed with IEC before retiring in June 1999.

She was a long-time member of the First Osage Baptist Church with a strong committed faith which was demonstrated in various church ministries. Lois participated in Sunday School, Sunday evening Bible Study, assisted with Funeral Dinners and yearly VBS activities. She helped in recent years with preparing and serving food for the Wednesday night Children/Youth meetings until the pandemic of Covid-19 cancelled the activities. Lois also attended the Ladies group, Sisters-on-common-ground, often bringing her delicious coconut cream pie. The past few years while living in Ponca, she attended Ponca City Life Center.

In her younger years, she could be found weekly at the Ponca City bowling alley with her league friends spending many hours bowling and winning titles together. Lois got great enjoyment playing cards with her Fairfax and Ralston lady friends until members declining health ended the group’s activities.

Lois was a very kind-hearted, gentle lady. She had the heart of a servant and was always helping others. In her spare time, she loved gardening, wood working, crocheting, playing games on the cell phone and was always ready for a challenging game of Yahtzee. She traveled a lot with family, having been to Switzerland and Hawaii and on yearly trips to Branson with the Fairfax Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her children: Bonnie (Rick) Flynn, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Vickie Wilson, Ponca City; Jamie (Teresa) Wilson, Elizabeth, Colo.; Judy (Billy) Hren, Silverthorne, Colo.; Peggy (Tom) Goetsch Cushion; and Denny Wilson, Ponca City. Plus, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. One brother Vernon (Susan) Nygren of Colorado Springs, Colo. and one sister Cindy Coburn Alamogordo, N.M.; numerous other extended family and friends.

She lost her best friend and love of her life, James Wilson Jr. (1985); her mother Doris Nygren (1986); her father John Nygren (1995); her twin brother Leo Nygren (1976); brother David Nygren; sister Carolyn Galvin; two granddaughters Shannon Wilson and Joleen Wilson.

Visitation will be 1p.m. to 7p.m., Tuesday, March 22 at the Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, Oklahoma. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Ralston Riverside Cemetery with Pastor David Boggs officiating. Pallbearers are her grandsons and great grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be sent to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview, Ponca City OK 74604.

Arrangements are under the care of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home, Fairfax. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com

She was very devoted to her family and spent countless hours traveling out-of-state to spend time with each and everyone of them whom she loved dearly.
