Linda Summy

April 20, 1945 — February 7, 2020

Fairfax

Linda Fae Summy, age 74, departed this life into the loving arms of Jesus in the early morning on Friday, February 7, 2020 at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She was born on Friday, April 20, 1945 to parents Ross Arnold and Bonnie Pearl (McClain) Chitwood in Fairfax, Okla., the fifth child of six children.

Her first day of school began close to home as she lived very near the Grayhorse Grade School.  Upon completion of her first eight years, she graduated at Grayhorse.  As a freshman, she continued her education at Fairfax High School, being popular with her peers she was often homecoming royalty, was a member of 4-H, and a cheerleader for the Red Devils, graduating with the Senior Class of 1963.

Shortly after high school graduation, Linda married Johnnie Morris Summy in Miami, Okla. They lived together almost inseparable for 56 years before John passed on October 8, 2019, and Linda followed him only four months later.  They were blessed with two wonderful children, Matthew and Kandi.

The couple owned and operated Summy’s Body Shop & Wrecker Service as well as Summy’s Auto Parts for several years.  Linda patiently waited on the customers and also managed to do the bookkeeping.  The husband and wife team, worked side by side day in and day out.  After John retired in 1999, Linda began working at the Fairfax Memorial Hospital.  Again, her friendly smile and caring nature greeted patients and visitors alike when checking in at the front desk.

In 2008, they moved to Alva where John affectionately known as “Poppy” cared for Jenna and Linda went to work in the admission office at Share Medical Center until coming home to Fairfax in 2010.  In Fairfax, she returned to work part-time at the hospital.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and a homemaker.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother⎯family always came first.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was very energetic and led by example.  There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle.

Those Linda leaves behind who hold many cherished memories include her son Matthew Summy of Fairfax; her daughter Kandice and son-in-law Jimmy Allen; three grandchildren Alexis Allen, Joby Allen and Jenna Rae Allen all of Alva; two brothers Larry Chitwood and wife Jackie of Ponca City, Bill Chitwood and wife Christina of San Antonio, Texas; and one sister Judy Duggins and husband Ron of Tulsa; two sisters-in-law, Billie Jean Clodfelter of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Barbara Cody and husband Claude of Tuttle, Okla.; several nieces, nephews and distant relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Ross and Bonnie; her sisters, JoAnn Otto and Jerri Pittman; one niece, one nephew, one sister-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

Memorial Service is planned for 2p.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at the First Christian Church, Fairfax with Church Pastor Russell Hughes officiating.  Immediately following, interment at the Fairfax City Cemetery where Linda and John will be forever united.
