Laster Dean, affectionately known by most as "Dean" was born on June 8, 1950 to parents William Howard and Linnie Pearl Wells McConnell in Sugar Grove, Arkansas. Growing up in Sugar Grove, he attended school there before moving to Fairfax, Okla. Dean served time in the Army for 6 years until his honorable discharge on September 13, 1979.

Dean married Nancy Sharp McConnell and to this union were born two children, J.R. and Deanna.

Dean worked in various jobs in the community including Gray's Dairy, Police Officer, D&P Tank, and Throop Construction. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He was a volunteer Firefighter for the town of Fairfax.

His enjoyments included fishing for catfish and by trot line, hunting: squirrels, deer, quail and rabbits; and hunting for Morell mushrooms. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, John Conley and don't you dare change his radio station! His favorite foods were beans and cornbread, and fried catfish. He hated potato soup and anything made with celery. He liked to visit his buddies at the pool hall and attending poker nights. He loved to watch Hee Haw, and fix all of the problems of the world. In his younger days, he enjoyed going to bed early with the chickens and then up again before sunrise.

In late 2000, Dean met Sherry in a sunflower patch in Ralston. It was love at first sight. On March 23, 2001 George Weston joined in marriage Dean and Sherry J. McConnell. The couple began their life together in Ralston, Okla. and had been married nearly 18 years upon his passing. She was the love of his life.

Dean will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sherry of the home; his children, J.R. (Michelle) McConnell of Burbank and Deanna (Sam) Fassnacht of Perry. Dean will also be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren: Tia Ann McConnell, Hunter Willian McConnell, and Jordan Dean McConnell; and also sister, Jannie Pearl Nibblett of Boonville, Ark. brother, Lawrence McConnell of Sugar Grove, Ark., nephews: Robert (Kelley) McConnell of Ponca City, daughter and granddaughter, Larry (Melinda) McConnell of Magazine, Ark. and children, Troy (Michelle) Kitchel of Oklahoma City, Okla., Allen (Tellicia) Kitchel of Oklahoma City, Okla., children and grandchildren, as well as a host of very special nieces and nephews. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim and Sharon Binkley of Ralston and children; Pat and Louise Brandenburg of Neosho, Mo. and children; Chuck and Cyndy Brandenburg of Ralston and children; and Shirley Sanford of College Station, Texas and children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Mattie McConnell, grandparents, brothers Clayton McConnell, Jimmy Ray McConnell, George Edgar McConnell, and one nephew Roger Dean Nibblett.

Honorary Pallbearers include Randy Wilson, Floyd Kelley, Marvin Sparks, Dr. James Graham and Bob Rice.

Thank you to all of Dean's caregivers throughout his last few months including the Fairfax Community Hospital, Sherry's awesome co-workers, Dr. Graham, Dr. Evans, Physicians Choice Hospice, many friends and neighbors and a very special and caring neighbor Mrs. Gene Hemken.
