Kenneth Leroy Turner, longtime resident of Fairfax, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Oklahoma City. He was 84 years of age. Mr. Turner was born September 25, 1924 at Peru, Kansas, the son of Evan Leroy Turner and Minnie Iona Longpine Turner. He was a graduate of Peru High School. He was married to Ellen Elizabeth Ashford on March 3, 1942 in Sedan, Kansas. Leroy entered the United States Army on September 21, 1944 and served with the 108th Infantry Regiment in the Philippines during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Army on November 5, 1946.The couple moved to Fairfax in 1959. Leroy was employed in earlier years with the Sinclair Oil Company and then was employed by Atlantic-Richfield from January 2, 1952 until September of 1985. His enjoyments included coon and squirrel hunting, gardening, and attending auctions and sales. He is survived by his two grandchildren, Kenneth Ray Turner and wife, Aimee, of Ponca City and Kylie Nicole Turner and husband Dub, of Oklahoma City; one great granddaughter, Jaydn Grace Turner; one sister, Christine Wagoner, Georgetown, Texas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen, in 1999; his son, Art, in 2001; three sisters, Emma Ines Jacobus, Flora Gene Southwood and Elizabeth Evelyn Turner; one brother, James Daniel Grayson Turner. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Bernard presiding. Interment will be in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Bill Eyler, Terry Ward, Ray Martinez, Larry Hockman, Dub Turner and Wayne Scheffle. Honorary casket bearers will be Bud Trisdale, Herb Staples, Jerry Bell, Jimmy Bell and Larry Bell.
