James Hundley

A service honoring the life of James Garfield Hundley will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the New Hope Christian Fellowship Church, Fairfax, Okla. with Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating assisted by Rev. Waymond White. A private burial will be at a later date in the Family Cemetery, rural Fairfax.

James, better known to all who knew him as "JG", went to be with his Lord on April 28, 2018 at his home in Fairfax with family by his side. He was 94 years young. His wish was to be cremated and the family has honored his wish.

He entered this world on Wednesday, January 9, 1924 in Fairfax, Okla., born to Vernon Gordan "VG" and Julia Minerva (McNally) Hundley. He grew up on the farm along with his seven siblings, attending school in Fairfax.

At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Alameda, Calif. During his military service, he met a young girl and asked her on a date, she replied "No, I have to wash my hair tonight". She promptly changed her mind and said "yes". After a few months of dating, that young girl from Patterson, Calif., Josie Gertrude "Jo" (Myers) said "yes" again and the couple was married on June 3, 1944. JG obtained the rank of Seaman First Class before being honorably discharged in January 1946. Six months later, he moved his wife and their first born, JoAnne, back to Fairfax.

He found work as a milk man, picking up and delivering milk from the dairy farms for processing. He also worked as a cowboy at the Mullendore Ranch and McKernan Ranch in Osage County. By the 1950's, he was working as a pumper in the oilfields. Later he formed and managed his own business, JG's Ditching out of rural Fairfax. After retiring, he continued to live in the Fairfax area.

He always thanked Jo for giving him "four little round headed girls" whom he loved dearly. The family attended the old Fairfax Assembly of God Church where he served as a deacon and on various church boards. JG was a mighty prayer warrior and could quote the Bible several chapters at once, his favorite being Hebrews. He was instrumental in building the Assembly of God Church now located on Highway 18, given a vision from God early the next day he went to the property and laid out the floor plan as we know it today with the help of fellow Christian Bro. Paul Ratliff.

JG leaves behind to cherish his memory four precious daughters, JoAnne Ferguson of Fairfax, Jerry Sue (Jim) Spruill of Canute, Okla., Janette (Lue) Ellison of Fairfax, and Jeanne (Waymond) White of Copan, Okla. Grandchildren, Jeana Spruill White, Jerry Spruill, Sonya Ellison Shull, Tonya Ellison, Andrea White Hunter, and Aaron White. Eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 72 years, Jo; his parents, Vernon and Julia; two brothers, Leland Hundley, Billy Hundley; five sisters, Mildred (Hundley) Sisseck, Dorothy (Hundley) Culver, AnnaLee (Hundley) Duncan, VernaMae (Hundley) Hutchison Wilson, and Margie (Lewis) Dilbeck; and one grandson, John Mikal Spruill.
