Edith Crabtree

Edith Elizabeth (Infield) Crabtree passed peacefully in her Fairfax home on May 22, 2021 after a long and happy life.  She was 87.

Born to Orlando (Orley) Nathan Infield and Lura Levinnia (Brittain) Infield on January 6, 1934 at Hominy, Oklahoma, Edith was one of nine children.  She spoke fondly of her memories of growing up with her siblings – of playing in the dirt under the porch and working alongside them in the family garden. The family made their home in the Mound Valley area, north of Hominy.  Edith graduated from Mound Valley School in 1952.

On December 21, 1956 Edith married Charles Wayne Crabtree in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.  Charlie was a tall, handsome fella’ recently honorably discharged after service in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was the love of her life. They lived briefly in Tulsa before moving to Sand Springs, where their first son, Chuck, was born. While there, Edith worked for Zebco putting together fishing reels. The family moved to Fairfax in 1959 and two years later their second son Todd was born at the old Hamill hospital in Fairfax. Edith continued to work hard for her family both inside and outside the home, working as a piece seamstress at Munsingwear in Hominy for many years until her retirement.

Also talented and creative, Edith hand-crafted quilts and crocheted blankets for the many adults and children she knew and loved – items that will be cherished for generations. For decades she hosted her growing family for dinners and holidays and later enjoyed cooking for days in advance and hauling her pecan pie and other goodies to share in her families’ homes.  Edith’s fried chicken was the best.

Edith loved her family and welcomed each as though they’d been hers forever. She delighted in exchanging letters, calls and visits with her sister Jean. Visits with her niece Geri and her husband Bill and with her sisters-in-law Mary Lou and Juanita always made her day – and kept her up on all the latest news and gossip. She loved every visit with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Edith will be greatly missed by her family; sister Jean Thomas and husband Bill, Odessa TX; sons and daughters-in-laws Chuck and Lisa Crabtree, Ralston OK, Todd and Susan Crabtree, Pawhuska OK; grandchildren Jake and Erin Crabtree, Aledo TX; Cody and Charlie Dawn Nieman, Collinsville OK; Adam Crabtree, Stillwater OK; and Shiloh Purkey, Chicago IL; great-grandchildren Jolie Crabtree and Bryton Crabtree, Aledo TX; sisters-in-law Juanita Logsdon and Mary Lou Crabtree, both of Fairfax OK; countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; parents Orley and Lura; sisters Sylvia, Leona, Vesta, Lottie, and Shirley; brothers Roy and Perry.

A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 in the Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lewis Bernard officiant. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com
