Donald Yandell

Donald Gene Yandell, life-long Fairfax, Okla. resident, went to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, May 5, 2018. He was 82 and had moved to the Fairfax Manor only a few short days before his passing.

Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 9, from 9am-7pm. A graveside service will be held 11 am, Thursday, May 10, at the Pavilion in the Fairfax City Cemetery with George Weston, Retired Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow under the care of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.

Honorary casket bearers are his grandsons: Jeremy, Chance, Ryan, Codey and Justin Yandell.

Don was born on June 12, 1935 to James Arie and Mary Elesibeth Catlett Yandell in Fairfax. He was raised in Fairfax along with three brothers and three sisters. On September 17, 1955, he married the love of his life, Lillie Lavern Woodward, in Fairfax. The couple made their home in Fairfax where they raised their four children. They had been married fifty years when Lavern passed on August 9, 2006.

He worked for the City of Ponca in the Sanitation Department for over 30 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfax. His enjoyments included hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. For the last several years of his life, he had lived with son David and most recently with son Mike.

Surviving family includes two sons, David and wife Tracy Yandell, Michael and wife Teresa Yandell; son-in-law, Randy Wilson; two sisters, Emma Lou and husband Jake Sawyers and Betty Barden all of Fairfax. Seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews as well as faithful furry companion, "Shadow."

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Lavern; oldest son, Mark Yandell in 2007 and only daughter, Lisa Wilson in 2005; and several brothers and sisters.
