Donald Yandell passed away on October 18, 2016 at his residence in Stillwater after battling health problems for several years. He was 64 years old. Donald was born in California but lived most of his life in Oklahoma.
Donald was known to his family as Don but by all of his friends as "Cowboy". He always looked the part in his cowboy hat, belt buckle, boots, and spurs. His spurs had a two part purpose: one to help the cowboy look and the other to keep his jeans off the ground. Don never went anywhere without a bandana in his back pocket.
After graduating from US Grant High School in 1970 he joined the Army with his brother Tony. They were stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. After his time in the service he went to college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where he earned a Bachelor of Education in History. After graduation in 1980 he taught two years in Wayne, Oklahoma. Don then moved back to cowboy country. He lived in Stillwater most of his adult life with his motto being "Cowboy Up". He worked as a manager at Consumers IGA for over 25 years but his favorite job was working at Record Exchange with Pat Dorr and the gang. This is where his true passion for music began. Cowboy loved all genres of music and he collected some of every kind. He started his own collection of 45's, albums, and cd's. His dream was one day to open his own record store. His collection numbered 10,000 plus. His favorite band was the Beatles and favorite song was Imagine. He loved playing Trivial Pursuit with his friends and family and rarely, if ever, lost a music question. He loved dancing and showing off his special moves. Don was a kind, sweet, gentle, and unique soul who will be missed by his friends and family.
Don had special relationships with a lot of people. Thank you for loving him as much as we did.
Don is survived by three sisters, Louise Allen, Eileen Roe & spouse, Mundy, Karen Jackson & spouse, Chris. One brother, Tony Yandell. Nephews, Kyle Roe & Stephanie, and Jacob Jackson & Michelle. Nieces, Kim Ford, Charity Morgan & Ken, Jill Curtis & Eric.
