Donald Abbott

Donald Ray Abbott, 90, long-time Fairfax resident, joined his beloved Cleo in heaven on Friday, October 20, 2023.

Donald, affectionately known as Don, was born on August 11, 1933, to parents Lawrence Raymond and Alice Elmisa (Blanchard) Abbott in Kansas.

He attended schools in Kansas and Colorado graduating from High School while living in Colorado. In 1951 he joined the US Marine's proudly serving his country until 1954. He then became a truck driver, driving cross country for ABF freight until his retirement in 2000.

Donald and Cleo (Robertson) were married at Little Rock, Ark. where they made their home until Don's retirement. During the early years of their marriage, they enjoyed countless hours on the riverbank fishing while having a cool drink. Also, on occasion, they loved taking a spin on the dance floor.

Grateful for having shared in "Poppa's" life are bonus family including daughters Wytonia Valencia and husband Victor of the home and Linda Parker of Stillwater; sons Mikeal Chitwood of Van Buren, Ark. and Anthony Chitwood of Tipton, Okla.; brothers-in-law Johnny Robertson of Enid and George Robertson of Fairfax; loving four legged "Boomer" plus numerous other family and friends.

He now rests with his wife Cleo, twin brother Ronald Abbott, sons Donnie Abbott, James Elliott, Thomas Chitwood and Robbie Chitwood.

The family has chosen cremation under the care of Hunsaker Wooten Funeral Home, Fairfax. Memorial Service to be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 10th, 2023 at the Fairfax City Cemetery Pavilion with Pastor Lewis Bernard officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Cemetery where Donald will be laid to rest beside son, Tommy Chitwood for eternity. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hunsakerwootenfuneralhome.com.
