Bonnie Mason

Bonnie L. Mason went to her eternal reward on Tuesday evening, October 22, 2019, after 92 years of extraordinary life.  She was surrounded by her loving daughters and many grandchildren when she passed peacefully at the Fairfax Manor Nursing Home.  Bonnie was a life-long resident of the Fairfax, Oklahoma, area.

Graveside services will be held Friday, October 25, 2019, at the Fairfax City Cemetery beginning at 10 am with Chaplain Russell Hughes presiding.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.

Born on Monday, September 5, 1927, in Fairfax, Oklahoma, she was the oldest child of George August and Viola Rebecca (Howerton) Elliott. Her only sibling was younger sister, Clara May (Jeep).  As a young woman, Bonnie enjoyed barrel racing and rodeo and was crowned Rodeo Queen, representing Fairfax. She attended the original Grayhorse Grade School and Fairfax Public Schools, graduating with the Red Devil Class of 1945.   In her early adult life, Bonnie worked as a box office clerk at the Tallchief Theatre.  Her duties included taking the admission fees, ten cents a show.

Bonnie married the love of her life, Bennie Joe Mason, on November 6, 1952.  They raised their two daughters, Terry and Tammy, on the family ranch north of Fairfax.  Bennie passed away November 3, 1987, just before their 35th anniversary.

She attended the First Christian Church of Fairfax and was a homemaker.  Bonnie was a dedicated mother first and foremost.  She treasured her girls and embraced every moment with them.  Bonnie was known to support her daughters in all their endeavors, from being a Band Mom to Girl Scout Leader, she was always there for the girls.  She instilled in them strong values that have served them well.  She especially loved her role as Grandma.  She loved to cook, and loved her flower garden.  Everyone enjoyed Bonnie’s pies and cookies at the Bake sales and Fundraisers.

In the 60’s and 70’s she assisted her mother Vie Elliott, owner of the Fairfax Flower Shop, on occasion with arrangements and deliveries or mostly anything that needed done.  She was an avid reader and frequented the Fairfax Library often, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Bennie Joe Mason; sister; Clara Mae “Jeep” Diehm, grandson; Zachary Lux and niece; Marsha Thompson Gardner.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Terry (Ted) Moore of Fairfax and Tammy (Richard) Lux of Wyandotte; grandchildren Allysun “Skye” Coffel, Joseph Ellis, Jacob Lux, Jessica Harjo, Dillon Moore, Erica Moore and Elizabeth Moore, great-grandchildren; Aiden Coffel, Kailey Coffel, Aric Coffel, Augustus Coffel, Kinsley Coffel, Atticus Coffel, Archer Coffel, LaMiyah Moore, Rozen Moore and Rexton Harjo, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

All who love her dearly will miss her and never forget her undying love and care for them.
