Betty Jo Franks Wayman, longtime resident of Fairfax, passed Monday, September 19, 2011 at her home. She was 83 years of age.
Betty was born March 3, 1928 in the Big Bend area West of Ralston, the daughter of Newt Franks and Ada Armstrong Franks. She was a 1945 graduate of Burbank High School and was the class Valedictorian. She was married to George Wayman in August of 1947. She had been employed at the Burbank Bank and Shidler Bank prior to her employment with the First State Bank of Fairfax in 1949. She later earned an accounting degree from the University of Tulsa. She retired as the President of the First State Bank in 2001.
Betty was a member of the Elks Club, BPW of Fairfax and the Bankers Association. She was instrumental throughout her banking years in keeping many businesses in the Fairfax community. Betty at one time had a private pilots license and owned her own airplane. Her enjoyments included her grandkids and great grandkids, going to the casinos, and being on the lake. She was affectionately known as MoMo by her family and many of her friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Denta Carter of Fairfax one brother, Harmon Franks of Fairfax one sister, Linda Reyburn of Tulsa 3 grandchildren, Missy Keeler and husband, Brandon, of Fairfax, McKale Barnard and husband, Tucker, of Stillwater, and Mark Carter and wife, Suni, of Broken Arrow 5 great grandchildren, Branna and Berry Keeler, and Carter, Tate and Charlie Barnard. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gale Franks.
A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Fairfax Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Fairfax Christian Church with Rev. George Weston and Rev. Gary Holt presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of the HunsakerWooten Funeral Home.
Casket bearers will be Mark Carter, Brandon Keeler, Tucker Barnard, Jerry Franks, Andy Graham and Gabe Graham. Honorary casket bearers will be George Wayman, Doug Thornburg, Bobby Paslay, Bob Wilson, Kelly Young, Glen Hadlock, Max Elsberry, Tommy Wayman and Harvey Payne. Junior honorary casket bearers are grandsons, Carter Barnard, Tate Barnard, Charlie Barnard and Berry Keeler.
