Barbara Joyce McKinley, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 4, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was a loving mother and will be deeply missed.
Barbara was born December 31, 1950 in Fairfax, Oklahoma, the daughter of Marion Wofford and James Morrell. She was later adopted by Harrison McKinley, and throughout her teenage years, she lived with the Charm Valliere Family, where she began studying and practicing her Native American culture.
Barbara attended Miami High School, where she was an accomplished swimmer. She graduated from Ralston High School in 1969 and attended Oklahoma State University. She resided in the Sunnyslope area, where she and Howard Holloway raised four children. She enjoyed watching her children excel in sports and academics.
Barbaras hobbies included playing pool, bingo and slot machines, mastering crossword puzzles and free cell, listening to music, watching her favorite TV shows, reading books, helping her family with their schoolwork , and was always up for a good coyote hunt. In the 1980s and early 90s, she owned and trained several race horses on her beloved ranch land. She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and American Paint Horse Association. It was during this time, she raised her prized paint horse, Dynamite Hank. In her later years, Barbara loved designing and creating Native American influenced jewelry.
Barbara was Catholic and actively practiced her beliefs on a daily basis. She was a member of the Osage Tribe. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her four children: Teresa Bledsoe and husband Billy, Howard Holloway, Jr., Tara McKinney and husband Bud, all of the Sunnyslope area, and Victoria Holloway of Pawhuska seven grandchildren: Tanner Holloway, Amy Bledsoe, Hailey Holloway, Jaiden Holloway, Blake Bledsoe, Braiden Holloway and McKyla McKinney a sister, Marie Tiny Morrell and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a strong, courageous woman while battling many years of health problems. Despite the battles, Barbara always remained positive, had a great, caring attitude and enjoyed her life. She will be greatly missed.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Grayhorse Chapel. Osage services will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Grayhorse Chapel, with Mass of the Resurrection to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairfax at 9:30. Father Chris Daigle of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Pawhuska will officiate. Burial will follow at the McKinley family cemetery.
Casket bearers are John Kojack Holloway, Taos Barrone, Michael Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Jim Hadlock, Joby Hadlock, Larry Higgins and Thomas Go Go Goodeagle. Honorary casket bearers are Billy Bledsoe, Kenny Blackbird and Bud McKinney.
Services are under the direction of HunsakerWooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.
