Barbara Louise Hudson Bowman longtime Fairfax resident passed from this life on Sunday, June 6, 2021. She was 83 years old. She was born November 11, 1937 in the Ponca City Hospital to Gertrude Rose Fletcher and Melbert Patrick Hudson. She married Larry Bowman August 24, 1956 and to this union, had three children, John King, Mark Fletcher and JoLynette.
She was a 1954 graduate of Fairfax High School and loved reminiscing about all the fun times she had with her girlfriends. In earlier years Barbara was employed with the Osage Nation placing many youth in its summer job program. In 1986 Barbara opened and operated the Fairfax Smoke Shop until retiring due to ill health.
She was a proud member of the Osage Nation, her mother Gertrude, being a pure blood Osage. Barbara enjoyed the In-Lon-Shka dances and always looked forward to this time of year. She was a wise woman and directed and instructed many in the traditional Osage ways, making sure everyone at her camp knew the dancers were always taken care of first. She enjoyed conversing with others about her Osage people and culture.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and made sure they always had a vacation planned for the summer, making several memorable trips to Six Flags, Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Colorado Springs.
Barbara is survived by her children King (Tamra) Bowman, Mark (Dawna) Bowman and JoLynette Bowman. Grandchildren, Dalton (Krystal) Bowman, Callie Bowman, Ross Bowman, Lee Bowman, Chase Bowman, Larra Bowman, and Joey Grigg. Nine great grandchildren, Hunter, Kameron, Dailyn, Tayven, Emery, Avery, Brianna, RanDea Jo, and Chesney. Sister Rita (Lee) Alley, and brothers John (Melodie) Hudson and Jim (Tanya) Hudson. She was pre-ceded in death by her parents and much loved step-father Clarence Sroufe, brothers Perry Hudson, Shane Hudson, sister Billie Myers and grandsons Joshua Hight and Mark Grigg.
She touched the lives of many and was fondly known as Aunt Barbara.
A rosary will be Tuesday, June 8, 7:00 PM at the Grayhorse Chapel where she will lie in state. Services will be Wednesday June 9, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, burial to follow in Fairfax Cemetery, Father Desmond Ibeneme officiating. There will be a dinner at the Grayhorse Community building after the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 333 S. 8th, Fairfax, OK 74637.
Barbara will lie in state at the Grayhorse Chapel from Monday evening until early Wednesday morning when she will be moved to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fairfax.
