Alma Dollie Speakman, a longtime Burbank resident and recent Fairfax resident passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 in Haskell, Texas. She was 84.
Alma was born September 8, 1926 in Western Osage County, the daughter of Joseph Calvin Shaffer and Mellicca Myrtle Magee Shaffer. She was a graduate of the Fairfax High School. She was married to Fred R. Speakman on July 20, 1948 in Burbank. As a young woman she worked for the telephone company in Fairfax. She lived on a farm West of Burbank until 1990 when she moved to Fairfax.
She was a member of the Burbank Baptist Church and was baptized in the Sunset Baptist Church of Ponca City. Her enjoyments included visiting with friends and neighbors, embroidery, gardening, quilt tops and reading. She was known as Auntie to many people because of her love and care she had given them throughout the years.
She is survived by her 3 brothers, her twin brother, Joe Shaffer and wife, Alberta, of Caldwell, Kansas, Bill Shaffer, and wife, Karen, of Fairfax, and Virgil Shaffer and wife, Margaret, of Owasso, Oklahoma two sisters, Bonnie Fay Jester and husband, Shirl, of Del City, Oklahoma and Lula E. Means of Fairfax numerous nieces and nephews that included Margie Ann Shaffer, Connie Jo Sisson, Vicki Wickham, Pattie Jones, Debbie Massey, Tammy Jones, Linda Hurt, Brenda Branscum, Ted Shaffer, Randy Shaffer, Danny Shaffer and Earl Leon Harrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Fred, in 1996 and one sister, Ola Parker 2 nephews, Wayne Shaffer and John Kirk Zink 1 niece, Kimberly Shaffer.
A graveside will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Fairfax Cemetery with the Burbank Baptist Church pastor, Dennis Wildman, presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of the HunsakerWooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.
Casket bearers are L.A. Seeliger, Larry Dooley, Terry Dooley, Randel Branscum, Randy Shaffer,
Larry Seeliger, Rob Hurt and Terry Willard. Honorary casket bearers are Earl Leon Harrison, L.D. Jones, Gary Moore, Kenneth Roberts, Gary Kuykendall and Dr. James Graham.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Hospice of Wichita Falls, P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308 or to the First Baptist Church, 109 South 1st, Burbank, Oklahoma 74633.
Appreciation goes out to L.A. Seeliger and wife, Toni Rae and their children for all the love and care they have given Alma the last three months when her family was unable to care for her. Another great comfort was the caring Doctor Joe and the Hospice that came to the house and cared for her with such love and compassion.
