Aladayne McConaghy, longtime resident of the Grainola, Oklahoma community, passed Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 86 years of age.
Aladayne was born October 1, 1928, in rural Ralston, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Douglass and Clara (Picaman) Douglass. She was a 1946 graduate of Fairfax High School. During and after high school she worked at the Silver Moon Cafe, the Fairfax Grill, and The Big Hill Trading Post. She was married to Carl McConaghy on December 30, 1949, at the Fairfax Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Shidler United Methodist Church and the PEO Sisterhood Chapter CS of Shidler. Her enjoyments were spending time with family, sewing, painting, her flowers, dancing, and card parties. Aladayne enjoyed hosting the Douglass family reunion at her home for many years. The family has great memories that include the annual Christmas wrapping paper wad fights and water gun battles.
She is survived by her four children, Neal McConaghy and wife Sue, of Grainola; Glen McConaghy and wife Debra, of Shidler; Marvin McConaghy and wife Susan, of Beloit, Kansas, and Carla Adair and husband Barton, of Collinsville, Oklahoma. Her sister, Pauline Dobson of Drumright, Oklahoma. Twelve grandchildren: Jeremy McConaghy and companion Samantha Hiebert, Erin Zemp and husband Jeff, Kevin McConaghy and wife Julianna, Lisa Schroeder and husband Ricky, Justin McConaghy and wife Winifred, Alex McConaghy and wife Megan, Megan Collom and husband Cody, Lauren Myers and husband Paul, Spencer McConaghy, Leann Mendenhall and husband Cody, Steven McConaghy, and Scott McConaghy. Twelve great-grandchildren: Donovan Corn, Simon Hiebert, Jake Hiebert, Madison Hummel, Noah Corn, Kaleb McVay, D.J. Thiessen, Levi Collom, Landen Myers, Arianna McConaghy, Grant Collom, and Bennett Myers. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends that includes close friend, Marion Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Carl on March 2, 2005; two brothers, Claude Douglass and Kenneth Douglass; three sisters, Blanche Renfro, Deloris Keeler Martin, and Velma Hendrix.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Shidler United Methodist Church, 100 South WG Ward Ave, Shidler, with Rev. Velma Carriaga presiding. Interment will follow in the Ralston Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.
Casket bearers are Thomas Ehrlich, Jackie Vogele, Leb Williams, Jim Miller, Dave Kelly and Martin Ehrlich. Honorary casket bearers are members of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter CS.
